Season Survey Results:
All survey forms were looked at by board members. Thank you for taking
the time to let us know how the program is working for you and your children.
The following reports are the result of looking at the surveys, attempting to
identify common themes and concerns. All of this work was done by Tracy
McSheery.
Parents' Surveys
I'm always amazed at how a sample can reflect the opinions of a group.
Just to see if there were any differences between the girls and the boys, I
went ahead and did 165 girls (about 1/2 to 1/3 of the total I received.) from
U10 and U8 to see how closely they matched the 165 boys samples.
Curiously there were only the following visible differences (more than 4
percent)
- 11 percent more girls parents want to learn more about soccer
- 4 percent more girls thought the coaches emphasized winning over trying
(That can mean many things on the parents perception as well as the coaches
intents.)
- 5 percent less of the girls parents noticed the Kids Zone signs. I'm not
sure what to make of that. Field positions?
On the 1-5 scale there were differences but the general images are almost
identical. Take a look for yourself, see if there are any conclusions to be
drawn.

Coaches' Surveys
Here are the coaches survey results. There was a larger sample for the girls
and they included the question on having web tools for coaches aids, which came
back very positive.
The major differences:
- The girls coaches were much unhappier with practice fields, where as 75
percent of the boys were politically correct neutral. Still indicates this is
one of the biggest issues to resolve.
- Good sportsmanship was more neutral on girls, take some from both the
strongly agree and disagree side. Which means pretty much nothing, since it
still averages out.
- PCA clinic was likewise more divisive on opinion, but largely agreed it
was useful.
- The girls liked the Sportsmanship and Kid's Zone a bit more.
- Fifty percent want and 33 percent of the coaches didn't want after season
coaching clinics, which if you look at the data reflects more of the upper
division coaches input.. An additional chart on the bottom of page four shows
that when just the U10 and under are selected the results look the same as the
boys.
- Similarly 2/3 the coaches want to learn how to have training on how to
effectively use parents in their practices. Surprisingly the last chart shoes
this wasn't much different for U8 and under verses U10 and over.
- All in all, I'd say there were no surprises. The coaches want more
training to be better coaches, and the few that complain seem to complain the
most.
