LEAGUE REPORTS

League Commissioner’s Reports:

Regional Commissioner, Gene Batter reported that he has new picture vendors and would like to get together with Tracey to review them.

Eric Haas, reporting for the Girls League, stated that he has a new Assistant Division Coordinator for the Girls U10.

Coach and Referee Administration Report:

Chief Coach, Doug Brown, reported that they went through the first Coach’s Clinic and stated that there are three more Clinics coming up.  The dates of the upcoming Clinics are April 13th, April 20th and May 4th, and anybody interested in helping with those Clinics, please inform Doug.  Additionally, in June and July there will be a Youth Clinic for children who are new to soccer and who would like to learn about all the skills.  Doug also stated the Area is holding Intermediate Clinics which will be held in Foster City and San Carlos.  Doug will send out the dates of the Clinic to the Board so they can pass that information along to their Coaches.  Gene Batter also added that at the Area Meeting, they announced that they are making an effort to try and hold some of these intermediate and upper level training classes for everyone so that other Regions can ban together to get more attendance.  Once Gene received information on that, he will forward it onto Eric, so that it can get forwarded onto the Division Coordinators immediately and let them inform everyone.

Gene stated that at the Area Meeting they have made a decision to change some things in the way U19 and U16 are running their games.  They are adopting the fans on one side and players/coaches on the other side.  They are also working on finalizing neutral referees in all U19 and U16 games.  Each Region is going to be asked have a traveling team of referees.

Brian Kersten reported that the Area has a website www.ayso2n.org and Brian suggested that we link to that website.  Brian also commented on the early registration for Referees and that a notice was sent out regarding the refresher classes and AR classes.  The Area class and the Assistant Referee classes are set.  Gene stated that Area did set dates for both May and August for anyone interested in upgrading to Area.

TREASURER REPORT

Rand Potter handed out a copy of the Treasury Report.  He reported that the checking and savings totals $24,000 and reported that he moved $20,000 out to cover expense for the first part of the year prior to registration and for the 2001 yearbook costs.  He reported that there would be about $3000 in expenses for the Section Meeting and about $1500 for Gene to travel to the National Meeting.  Eric Haas reported that he did some research and that the cost of the Coach’s Manuals costs $400, not $4000 that was originally stated.  A motion was made to approve the treasurer’s report, and it was unanimously approved.

OLD BUSINESS:

            Calendar Changes/Updates:

Gene stated that one registration date was moved due to lack of space.  Gene stated that in the future, better planning needs to take place with regards to registration and dates have to planned in advance because it is getting more difficult to find a location.  The registration date was originally scheduled for Wednesday, May 15th and has now been moved to Thursday, May 16th at Bayside Middle School.  Gene also stated that everyone’s help in needed to manage the first registration date, May 11th, at Fiesta Gardens.  Gene will be e-mailing out a final 2002 Calendar this week.

Coaching Clinics Updates:

Gene stated that the first Coaching Clinic was held on March 23rd and went very well.  Doug stated that since there was a low turn out for the first Clinic, more in attendance is expected at future clinics and if you are interested in helping, let him know.  Eric informed everyone that the PCA clinic was well accepted by all in attendance and the surveys that were returned were very positive.  Eric will note the comments and send out to everyone.  Gene stated that registration is still open to referees and no one will be turned away for late registration.

Bay Meadows Update:

Gene reported that Bay Meadows probably will keep the racetrack open for another year.

NEW BUSINESS

Section Meeting Awards:

Gene reported that our AREA  won a gold award and our REGION won a platinum award.

Section Meeting Update:

Gene stated that our reps for the Section Meeting in Portland, OR on March 8th were well behaved and that the meeting went well.

            Kids Zone:

Eric Haas gave a presentation of the implementation proposal of Kids Zone and asked that each Board Member take the information that was handed out and review it.  The proposal will be discussed at the next Board Meeting.

            New Computer System:

Gene Batter talked about how things are changing and how AYSO’s Business Computer System is going live.  When he gets more information, he will inform the Board.

Camps and Training:

Gene stated that our Region has had many invitations for Soccer Camps and talked about how he will be meeting with the rep from the MLS camp.  He will report back at the next Board Meeting.

Solicitations at AYSO Functions:

Jack Coyne talked about how it has been AYSO’s practice to establish a table at registration where vendors can come and drop off their information.  With this, there aren’t any solicitors hanging around at registration and the families have the option of picking and choosing what information they would like to have.

OPEN DISCUSSION

There was in depth conversation about recognition for volunteers who don’t have children in the program.  It was suggested that a page in the Yearbook be allocated to recognize those volunteers who donate their time, but have no children in the program.  This topic will be discussed at the next Board Meeting.

Meeting was adjourned at 9:15pm

Respectfully submitted by Anusheh Chavez
